This is a stunning edition of Lord of the Flies by William Golding. It was published by The Folio Society in 2009. The original first edition was published by Faber & Faber in 1954.
This edition has a preface written by Ian McEwan and there are beautiful tipped in colour plates that have been illustrated by Sam Webber. Most of these plates depict an integral point in the novel.
I have loved this novel ever since being "forced" to read it for high school. It is a wonderful story.
Here is a synopsis of the narrative -
Lord of the Flies tells the story of a group of young boys who find themselves alone on a deserted island. They develop rules and a system of organization, but without any adults to serve as a 'civilizing' impulse, the children eventually become violent and brutal. In the context of the novel, the tale of the boys' descent into chaos suggests that human nature is fundamentally savage.
Yes danieladamg, it's a beautiful edition.
I too remember ‘Lord of the Flies’ from High School. Although, we didn’t use such a beautiful edition.
