This is one of my favourite books in my collection. Not just because of the book itself because it is an amazing story and was shortlisted for the Golden Booker last year. This is the first edition, first print and was published in 1987 by ANDRE DEUTCH. It is signed on the title page "For Pat with a great deal of love". The cover is the simple type which adorned many books of that era and the back cover features a photograph of Penelope. I prefer this cover to the many reprints which came out and as I said this is one of my favourites in the collection.
A quick synopsis of the book -
The elderly Claudia Hampton, a best-selling author of popular history; lies alone in a London hospital bed. Memories of her life still glow in her fading consciousness, but she imagines writing a history of the world. Instead, Moon Tiger is her own history, the life of a strong, independent woman, with its often contentious relations with family and friends. At its center — forever frozen in time, the still point of her turning world — is the cruelly truncated affair with Tom, a British tank commander whom Claudia knew as a reporter in Egypt during World War II.
I can't see myself ever parting with this beautiful edition.
