The White Baron: Peter Wrangel

Russia's long, bloody and chaotic civil war is over and Bolshevism has triumphed. The final battle between the Red Army and the Whites has ended in the Crimea with a resounding defeat for Baron Wrangel.

Wrangel, who took over from Deniken in March, did a tremendous job and turned a defeated mob into a disciplined army. But once the Bolsheviks had settled their campaigns against the Ukrainians and the Poles, he was outnumbered and out-supplied.

Wrangel's withdrawal was under French protection. Ships have evacuated 146,000 disarmed soldiers and refugees who are being taken to Tunisia.
